What
it takes to Refinish Your Car...
If
you do not know much about painting a car don't worry, our
professional painters know what it takes to restore or repair
your car's finish.
Below is a brief description of what your car will go through
before you see the final outcome:
| First
the surface must be chemically cleaned with a special
cleaner to remove all dirt and wax. This insures that
the final paint will adhere to the entire surface. |
 |
| Secondly,
the surface must be sanded down, then chemically cleaned
again. For small repairs, sanding down by hand is normal
procedure, but if the imperfection is very deep, or
an overall paint job is being done, sanding by machine
is usually performed. |
 |
| Next
comes "featheredging". This term is used to
describe a type of sanding technique which is used to
gradually taper scratches into the old paint surface
to avoid sharp edges from showing through in the new
paint job. After feathering is completed, the surface
must again be re-cleaned with a chemical cleaner. |
 |
| Then
a primer is applied. A primer is used to provide maximum
adhesion and a corrosion resistant foundation. Next
comes a primer surfacer. This type of material provides
some of the same benefit as a primer, and is used to
fill sand scratches. |
 |
| Finally,
a primer sealer is applied. This product allows for
good "color holdout". Color holdout simply
means that when the actual color paint is applied it
will not be absorbed into the old surface which could
cause a loss of color brilliance. |
